In our previous article we have discussed about importance of mother’s milk. And you are convinced. Trying hard to feed your baby. But your baby is not getting enough milk or not growing as per expectation.  Hence arises the question of adequate breast feeding. Have you ensured proper positioning and good attachment ?? Do you think that your baby is getting enough milk, Sufficient to achieve optimum growth and development ?

If you are lactating mother, please read carefully. You are working very hard and doing quite well. We are here to inform you. How to know if your baby is getting enough mother’s milk , proper positioning and good attachment for adequate breastfeeding.

  • Breastfeeding for 8 times in a day, atleast. Means in every 3 hours, your baby is getting milk from you.
  • while your baby sucks, you can hear the sound or can see your baby swallowing the milk.
  •  While sucking, the regular rythm will change with time.
  • Good muscle tone and healthy skin.
  • In a single day, you should see 6 or more wet diapers.
  • Your baby will pass 3-8 stools in a day.
  • Consistent and steady weight gain, another important factor to look upon.
  • You, the mom, should feel  a let down sensation, leaking from non suckled breast with fullness of breast.

If your baby losses weight, does not pee more than 6 times and if passes less than 4 sizeable stools in a day, then your baby is not getting enough nutrition.

So it is very important to ensure adequate feeding. But how ? Mother, what should you do ? First thing first. We will learn about proper positioning and good attachment between your baby and your breast. So your baby can suck easily and gets enough milk

  • Keep your baby close to your body

  • Keep baby’s body and head straight
  • Set your baby in a way so that, the nose lies opposite to nipple and face towards the breast.
